Lonely Hunter Books

I mentioned in the last post that the Lonely Monsters proof arrived. Well, the creator of that comic, Matthew Dunn, has released a collection of works from his recent exhibition ‘The Lonely Hunter’. The pieces were all outstanding and to have them all in this single collection would be a damn nice thing to have sitting on your bookshelf. There’s also Volume 2, which is a black & white collection of his various works over the last few years. The details are below:

Proof Arrived

It’s been a long while since I updated here. I’ve been pretty flat out with finishing school. The semester is pretty much over and I’m all done with my work (such a nerd), so I figured it best to get back on and show some love to the world of comics.

But the best reason to return is that Lonely Monsters is now sitting in my precious hands and it looks great! It took a little longer to arrive than I expected, but all is okay in my life now. I’ll now be sending off for a bunch more copies to make you all purchase off me! :)

The launch party will be set very soon. I’m looking at mid to late Jan. Keep your eye on here and facebook and the rest to make sure you don’t miss out.

Also, I’d like to welcome a couple more talented buggers to the FEC fold: Tim DeBono and Chas Chalker. They’re both going to be working on a couple of projects that I am insanely excited about. If you’d like to see some of Chas’ work, you can head on over to his art page on facebook here.

So that’s about all the news I’ve got to offer for the time being. Now that my spare time is looking less sparse, you’ll find I’m posting a fair bit more. Especially in the lead up to the launch.

Take care everyone!

Lonely Monsters

In light of recent Leroy-related affairs, I thought it appropriate to share the great big ol’ news in the FEC world. Matthew Dunn has brought over his graphic novel, Lonely Monsters, for a re-release in publication. Lonely Monsters was first released in 2008 and was the introduction of his most well known character, Leroy.

It’s a damn pleasure to see this project join our list, as I’ve have been big fan of his work for many years. You can also see more of Matt’s work in progress here: http://matthewdunnart.com/

It’s currently at the printer so we should be seeing it on our doorsteps soon. In the meantime, here’s a little preview of the updated cover:

Sell outs

Ahoy there!
It’s time to get some merchandise going. You’re gonna buy these tees and wear them 24/7 and when someone asks you “Hey, that’s an awesome tee shirt. Where’d you get that?”
You’ll reply “At FEC Comics, man. Where you been? Living under a rock? Pfft….

…..

…pffft”.
And then politely direct them to the website.

Here’s a look at the gear:

To buy a shirt you can either click on the tee in this post, or find them in our products page. Personally I’d buy all of them because it’s so hard to decide which one I like the most.

Valentine’s Dei

I recently was recommended to take a look at a webcomic produced by local creators, Peter Fairfax & Sammi Emery. Man, am I glad I took that piece of advice.

As soon as I started reading, I knew I was onto a solid comic. But it wasn’t until I reached page 15 in the first chapter that I knew I had to share this with you all. In fact, I immediately stopped reading and began emailing Peter on making such a great page. It’s perfect! Have a look:

PAGE 15!!

It’s a detective story set in the future with a strong noir influence. The private detective, Dominique Valentine, makes for a great lead character – methodical, cynical and chock-full of tobacco. We follow her on a case she’s picked up involving a missing teenager. I won’t tell you anymore; just that you should head there now to start reading.

They throw up a new page every Monday & Friday. Get on over now for a read! http://valentinesdei.com/comic/

New Arrivals

A new package arrived today – filled with copies of Great Works Act 2 and Cabin Man.

I gotta tell ya – they look fan-frikkin-tastic! Especially the colours on Cabin Man – perfect! Comixpress have impressed me yet again.

These two will be added to the store shortly and then you can start making purchases!

To keep the big news coming, FEC may have a new creator joining us; adding their graphic novel to our collection.  I’ll keep you all posted on that, but for now all I can tell you is there’ll be certain brain eating creatures featuring in the pages.
Keep up the good work, kids and be sure to get buying our comics! :)

Proofs

The proofs arrived and we have one success & one failure. Great Works – Act 2 has come back fine, but Cabin Man has had a hiccup with the cover. This should be a small problem and I can’t imagine it taking much to fix. Like the initial problem with Great Works; on a scale of problems to occur, this is small fry.

I just hope we can sort this out before the weekend. That’s the problem with dealing with printers in the U.S. – they’re working on it while I’m fast asleep and vice-versa – so everything seems to take a little bit longer than usual.

In other news, Pleydo just got back from the U.S. where he was hanging out at San Diego Comicon. He met some great people over there and managed to get a few industry connections. Nice work!

Hopefully, you’ll be seeing another post in about a week’s time with pictures of the latest releases from FEC Comics.

Great Works

As I said in the last post, Great Works Act 2 is off to the printer. I thought I might give you a preview of it before it arrives.

You may be asking yourself who these two new characters are. Well if you buy the issue I promise you’ll get your answer!

So get yourselves ready for the anticipated release of issue 2 at the end of August.

What’s happening

Been a little while, so I thought it best to fill you in on what’s been happening with FEC.

Issue 2 of Great Works is in the can and is currently waiting in line with the printers. No doubt it won’t be long before tsholl gets cracking on issue 3. With this in mind I believe it’s time to throw a launch party.

While my plans were to have an FEC launch party with a bunch of the comics in our selection available to purchase, the timelines aren’t quite matching up. There’s been delays with some, while others are ready to hit the shelves. I’d rather not hold up the potential sales of some just to have a bit more impact with a company launch, so I’m opting to just throw it for the comics that are ready.

I guess it’s time to start looking for a venue….any suggestions?

Epoch illustrator, Will Pleydon, is heading over to San Diego Comic Con in a matter of weeks! And he’s got a healthy looking portfolio to show the talent scouts what he’s all about! I wish him all the best of luck and hope that CB Cebulski manages to see the talent this man has to offer.

In some personal news from myself, I’m currently on my mid year break from studies. This break is desperately needed as it’s been one hell of a semester! The 3 weeks without any studies is gonna do wonders for me. I’ll definitely be taking advantage of the time – using it to work on editing scripts & page layouts – but some much needed relaxing will be squeezed in here & there.

Well, I’d better get off to bed. I’ve got a full day of Ars Moriendi work with Jake Strasser tomorrow.

Bound to follow up

Good news! The printer came back and agreed that the problem occurred on their end. Seems some silly duffer had taken the pages from the print machine and stacked them the wrong way around. So, being that the error was their fault, they’ve agreed to send over another run of them for free! Huzzah!

Hopefully, in the distant future, this backwards run will become renowned as the mythical issue that never made it to the shelves and will be worth a mint. Either that or they’ll just get tossed out with this week’s recycling. ;-)
