1 week to go

ONE WEEK! ONE! WEEK! COUNT ‘EM! ONE!

.

You’re all buying the FEC comics. And for that I am eternally grateful. But one a handful of people have actually posted photos of themselves with the comics. What’s the matter with you all? Don’t you like free t-shirts?! You’ve already done one part of the process. Just continue through with the second part and you’re in the draw.

.

Don’t miss out on your chance to win!

.

DUH! Winning!

Fuck, I can’t believe I quoted Sheen in the title of this post. I’m disgusted in myself.

.

It’s come to my attention that this Saturday, being Free Comic Book Day, is looking to become something huge in Melbourne. I’m getting pretty damn excited about all this. So much so, I wanna throw some free stuff to you, the readers. So here’s what FEC is offering you all:

With every purchase of an FEC comic this Saturday you’ll also be given a free FEC promotional poster, an FEC sticker and an FEC pin set. FREE! Good reading + merchandise to go with it. I believe the word you’re looking for is “Boom”.

.

But that’s just for starters….holy shit, I’ve just realised I’m sounding like Big Kev…ugh….alright, so the deal is – when you buy yourself that neat little haul, take a picture of yourself with your new FEC comic. Post that bad-boy on facebook and tag us. You will then go into the draw to win an FEC t-shirt. *ahem* Yeah, I know – friggin’ awesome. This offer is applied to the whole month of May, so if you can’t make it on Saturday that’s no problem – you’ve got a few more weeks. On Wednesday, June 1st, I’ll put all your names in a hat and draw out the lucky winner. Sounds good? Shit yeah, it does.

.

And while I’m yapping about FCBD, you should all head on down to All Star Comics to meet the creator of Lonely Monsters, Matt Dunn. I believe he’ll be in the store between 11am to noon. He’ll sign your newly purchased copy of Lonely Monsters, sell you some of his art work, he’ll even do a live sketch for you (from what I’m led to believe). Seriously, go down and meet him. The guy is making comics like his life depended on it and you can learn a thing or two from someone working that hard.

.

Going to the shop

Good news all round, folks!

.

On Thursday, the missing pack of comics finally appeared. That’s right. Ordered in November and arrived in April. Efficiency isn’t a goal for USPS. Dumb-fuckery is!
In light of the Lonely Monsters pack arriving, I hit up a couple of the comic shops around Melbourne and provided them with stock. Classic Comics and All Star Comics are now displaying FEC products on their shelves. Within the next week, you’ll also be able to find them at Alternate Worlds and Minotaur.

.

In other news, the Thor film is coming out tomorrow. I can’t wait to see Chris on the big screen, throwing Mjolnir around, punching frost giants. It’ll be a blast!

.

Tricked myself

How the hell did I convince myself that once the launch is done, things will slow down??
Things have just gotten busier & busier with FEC, which is brilliant! I’ve had new writers & illustrators showing an interest in what FEC has got going. This in particular was something that has me chuffed. When I held the launch, it wasn’t just for the benefit of making sales & putting FEC on the map. I also had the goal of gathering interest from more local creators. I wanted to show these folks that making comics on an independent level is very achievable. And not only that, but there is a platform for them if they’re willing to work. And this goal was met. I’ve had a number of people show interest in making comics, if they haven’t already started themselves. I can’t tell you much more than I’m DAMN EXCITED!!

.

To any customers who have possibly been heading to local stores looking for our products, I’m afraid to say they aren’t available yet. It seems we managed to make more sales than what we expected at the launch and we don’t have enough merchandise to share with the stores. Good problem to have, I know, but a pain nonetheless. So, I’ve ordered some more merchandise which should be arriving within a month and then I can get it on the shelves. But if you don’t wanna hold out until then, you can contact me for a pre-order and I’ll ship them out to you first thing!

.

Better get back to it. I’ll be making sure my posts are more regular now, so feel free to drop by soon. Also, make sure you’re checking out the Great Works page where I post a new page of the webcomic every Wednesday.

The Launch Party

Well, the launch was had. And I’ve gotta say, it was perfect! PERFECT! The crowd turn out was fantastic, the sales were great, and the beer was tasty! Really couldn’t ask for more than that.

.
I want to thank everyone who was involved. All the creators – you’ve all made some brilliant comics and will continue to put out works of even higher quality as you grow. All the friends & family who helped – without your assistance, this whole thing never could have happened. The folks who attended – thank you all so much for showing an interest in a project that is so damn important to me.

.
FEC really means to the world to me and to see it get so much support was a such a thrill. This show of involvement really made all the hours worthwhile.

Comics Delayed

It’s been an interesting week for me.

Over the last couple of weeks it’s been getting closer & closer to the date of the launch. As it rapidly approached, I patiently watched the letterbox; waiting……..waiting………aaaaaand waiting for the ACTUAL comics to arrive.
Once I reached a point that I felt was past the absolute latest due date, I started to investigate their whereabouts. It took a few days but I managed to find out exactly what happened. It seems our comics must be a potential danger to society as they were held up in customs. I’ve been told by many people since finding out about the hold up, that the US customs are currently going ballistic with examinations. It’s just a case of bad luck that our package was one of the “suspicious” items.

With the comics getting held up for so long, I can’t count on them arriving for the intended launch date of Feb 5th. With this in mind, we’re going to have to push back the date. As much as I’d love to say “Screw it, let’s just do it the week after”, I can’t guarantee that the package will have arrived by then either. Not only that – myself and the creators have other commitments that we need to look after. So the new date for the FEC Comics launch will be in approximately a month’s time. We hope to have it on March 5th, but that still needs to be confirmed with Little Mule Company. I’ll keep you posted once I’ve got the green light.

My sincere apologies for the stuff around. It’s been disappointing for me to have to make this decision, but it’s for the best. And, hopefully, this delay will prove beneficial – allowing us to gain more interest with the additional month of advertising.

Pencil it in your diaries. Just pencil. I’ll tell you when you can use pen.

Talking with Gods

If you live in Melbourne or are visiting Melbourne next weekend, I would suggest you head over to ACMI at Fed Square on the Friday evening. The boys of Non Canonical have organised a screening of the Grant Morrison documentary ‘Talking with Gods’. The guys have worked amazingly hard to keep us entertained & informed every week with their podcast, which you can find here. But now they’ve also gone to the effort of providing a screening of this documentary in a great local cinema. I think the least we can do is head along and support them for their hard work. I know I will. You can find all the details in their poster below.

.

Also, don’t forget to get your butts along to the official FEC launch party on Feb 5th.  You can get your hands on all our merchandise which includes works by Jake Strasser, Lee Zachariah, Thom Holland and Matthew Dunn.

FEC Launch

Well, we’re finally celebrating the launch of FEC Comics. The date is set and cannot be changed.
.
There’ll be all our current comics available to purchase, along with other merchandise, so be sure to pack your wallets with that paper-like stuff!
.
Not only will there be FEC merch, but our illustrators will be displaying their art work with the potential to sell. Get your art on!!
.
The beer shall be flowing and comics shall be read. In all honesty – it doesn’t get any better than that.
